Alfonz, our Siberian lynx, was born on May 10, 1998. He was found living as a pet in a family's home that bred and sold exotic cats. In early 2000, the breeding facility could no longer provide the proper permits to continue housing their animals within city limits. When Chimps Inc. heard about this devastating situation we decided to rescue both Alfonz and his mother Katia.
Chimps Inc. rescued Alfonz in August of 2003. He arrived here with all four of his paws declawed; a painful and unnecessary operation. Removing the claws alters a cat's natural gait and creates aberrant problems in the foot, leg and back. Sadly, Alfonz has suffered from pain and infections through the years. However, after numerous reparative surgeries, proper nutrition, and a healthy environment Alfonz has reached his maximum recovery potential.
Alfonz can now be seen roaming his spacious enclosure. He particularly enjoys trotting along the fence line with his human caretakers. If he is not prancing around his habitat he can often be found under a giant juniper tree. Alfonz is fun-loving and curious of new things and new people.
