Linky, a Canadian lynx, arrived at Chimps Inc. on September 19, 2011. Linky came to us from The Fund For Animals Wildlife Center in Romona, California, with hope that he will bond with our lonely Siberian lynx, Alfonz. Both lynx are approximately 14 years old, unfortunately declawed, and lonely. Alfie lost his mother Katia, whom he lived with since birth, on February of 2010 . She was 14 and died of renal failure. Her death was due to the enormous amount of pain medication she was on as a result of being declawed.
Linky is about to see his first snowfall and we are all very excited for him to have this experience. He arrived with all his favorite blankets and toys and has snuggled in quite nicely. We installed a special heat lamp to keep Linky warm until he gets use to the cooler weather in Central Oregon. All of his devoted caregivers and volunteers at The Fund for Animals are thrilled for Linky to experience the feel of snow. We update them weekly and send videos and photographs. We are looking forward to Linky and Alfie living out the rest of their lives and enjoying each others company here at Chimps Inc.
If Linky could speak, he'd share with you some exciting things that he's gained appreciation for over the past year. His caregivers caught wind that he didn't like the high desert climate, so his domain has been lined with misters to cool down the air. How incredibly exciting is that for a cat!?! Speaking of weather, Linky's been working on building up his fluffy warm coat for the winter. A diet rich in nutrients will help him achieve that goal and will also aid him in a strong immune system. If he could only talk, he'd certainly thank those in the community who generously donated their excess white & red meat to help support his geriatric needs. Additionally, Linky gets really excited when caregivers bring up enrichment that stimulates his sense of smell. He goes wild over catnip, and especially loves stuffed animals doused with oil extract: Lavender, Lemon Grass, Oregano, Basil, Coconut & Vanilla. Again, he expresses thanks to those who remember to support the lynx by donating scented oils for them to enjoy! One of the most exciting things that Linky would like to share with you is the large fence divider that provided him with a more comfortable home. This half acre space is located directly next door to his friend, Alfonz, our Siberian lynx. Although the two couldn't hash out their differences face to face, they still have the opportunity to interact with each other in a safe and healthy manner through the wire mesh. This is the first time in Linky's 14 years that he's had such a large space to call his own. He is incredibly grateful to all who helped make this happen for him..
If Linky had one more chance to speak, he'd certainly express gratitude and thanks to his healer and friend, Wendy Krebs. Her knowledge, expertise and compassion to provide care for an exotic cat have earned her a special place in his heart. Many thanks to the entire staff at Bend Equine, who opened their minds and hearts to him as well! He couldn't be more fortunate to have so many caring people looking after his wellbeing!
