Rose was our first big cat rescue, who passed away on August 24, 2006. She was born on May 20, 1991 and was destined to be a pet in Wisconsin. When the people in Wisconsin could not obtain their USDI license Chimps Inc. offered to provide her with lifetime care. She roamed freely in a ¾-acre enclosure composed of rocky outcrops and slopes sparsely vegetated with grasses and small shrubs; very similar to the snow leopards habitat in Central Asia. She enjoyed lying on the cool rocks, bedding under the Juniper trees, and smacking around her favorite basketballs in the enclosure. She lived an amazing 15 years before she was faced with a common feline disease known as renal failure. Fortunately, she did not suffer and she peacefully passed away with her human caregivers by her side.
Rose was a beautiful animal with a luxurious coat. A child once described her belly as "white lotion". Although it is so hard to lose an amazing friend like Rose, we know that Rose is free now. She will live in our hearts forever.
