Patti was born on September 11, 1982 in Marine World USA, Vallejo, California. She was raised by humans and then forced to perform for crowds of people. Due to Patti's exceptional personality she performed for fourteen years, dissimilar to most chimpanzees that end their entertainment "career" between the ages of 6 to 8. Like many sectors of entertainment, Marine World did not build a retirement home for their animal performers and all of the older chimps were sold or sent to other facilities. In June of 1996 Chimps Inc. opened its doors to Patti. She became Chimps Inc. second rescue and is our second oldest resident.
Patti is hailed as "Princess" Patti at Chimps Inc. Since growing up with a huge human influence Patti finds pleasure in playing with paints, makeup and clothes. Amongst her favorite things to do at the sanctuary is snuggling in a nest of blankets in a warm sun spot. She is not shy about asking for fruits and vegetables. Of the eight chimpanzees that we now house at our sanctuary, Patti proves to be the best at communicating to us what she wants through her excellent body gestures and American Sign Language. Her most used signs are "more," "hungry," "please," and "drink."
