After working so closely with chimpanzees every day, one can forget the novel and creative techniques they develop to manipulate their food just like us! Everyone knows the key to eating saltine crackers requires a large cup of water, or you will end up with a very parched mouth. Jackson too found a solution to this problem while enjoying his daily dose of monkey chow!
We noticed Jackson did not like to be fed only his monkey chow, for he found it too dry and rough to the taste. We soon caught Jackson in the act of dunking his chow into water to soften it up before savoring the taste on his palate! Now Jackson receives a cup of monkey chow and a cup of water, which to him is just a wonderful treat as any, and thanks you by rubbing his jolly round belly up against the enclosure in gratitude!
