The Center for Great Apes mission is to provide a permanent sanctuary for orangutans and chimpanzees who have been retired from the entertainment industry, from research, or who are no longer wanted as pets.
Save the Chimps is a sanctuary that was established in 1997, in response to the U.S. Air Force’s announcement that it was getting out of the chimpanzee research business.
Chimp Haven Inc. serves as the National Chimpanzee Sanctuary. An Independent, nonprofit organization whose mission is to provide lifetime care for chimpanzees who have been retired from medical research, the entertainment industry or no longer wanted as pets.
Primate Rescue Center, a nonprofit sanctuary located in Kentucky whose mission is to alleviate the suffering of primates wherever it occurs.
Chimpanzee Sanctuary Northwest (CSNW) is located on a 26-acre farm in the Cascade Mountains, due east of Seattle.
International Primate Protection League maintains a sanctuary in Summerville, South Carolina, where dozens of gibbons currently reside. Many of their gibbons come from research, pet, or zoo backgrounds. IPPL advocates for all animals nationally and internationally.
Fauna Foundation a non-profit organization located in Canada, which works to provide rescue and a permanent home for animals that have been used, neglected, abused or rejected by humans.
In Defense of Animals mission is to end animal exploitation, cruelty, and abuse by protecting and advocating for the rights, welfare, and habitats of animals, as well as to raise their status beyond mere property, commodities, or things.
Jane Goodall Institute is a global nonprofit that empowers people to make a difference for all living things. Our work builds on Dr. Goodall’s scientific work and her humanitarian vision.
NAPSA The North American Primate Sanctuary Alliance (NAPSA) was founded in 2010 by the directors of seven of the leading chimpanzee sanctuaries on the continent. The mission of NAPSA is “to advance the welfare of captive primates through exceptional sanctuary care, collaboration and outreach.”

Simian Society – is a non-profit organization founded in 1957 to improve the welfare of primates in captivity.
Global Federation of Animal Sanctuaries – mission is to promote excellence in sanctuary management and in humane care of animals through international accreditation, collaboration, mentoring, and greater recognition and resources for sanctuaries, while seeking to eliminate the causes of displaced animals.
Project ChimpCARE is a non-partisan group committed to improving the wellbeing of chimpanzees, regardless of current circumstances, and opening the lines of communications between disparate groups to achieve this singular goal.
