Two large indoor playhouses are always open for the chimps to explore, play, rest, or retreat. Our newest indoor area, the Play House, was completed in 2007. It is a 2,200 square feet, bi-level building with an expansive vaulted ceiling. There are 12 oversized skylights casing the entire roof allowing the central Oregon to shine through.

The interior of this playhouse is specifically designed to meet the physical and behavioral needs of chimpanzees by offering high nesting areas, multi-level platforms, hammocks and durable fire hoses to swing from. The windows are made of laminated layers of Lexan-tempered safety glass. This allows the chimps to look outside without having the obstruction of bars in the enclosures.

Additionally, the new play house has a complete kitchen and food preparation area. This allows the volunteers and chimps to watch each other during regular business hours.

The second indoor play area, the Play Room, is located next to the night house. It is approximately 1,100 square feet and consists of benches, fire hoses to hang on, nesting areas, windows, and each wall is painted with vibrant colors and beautiful nature scenes.
