Chimps Inc. Intern Application
Chimps Inc. is a non-profit wildlife sanctuary, located in Bend, Oregon. Our mission is to further chimpanzee conservation through education while providing a refuge for animals that have come from a variety of backgrounds: roadside zoos, the entertainment world, and the private sector. We currently have seven chimpanzee residents and one Siberian lynx. Our internship program offers the unique opportunity to live and work with these animals and experience all aspects of sanctuary life. The dedication and commitment of interns not only helps us in the operation of the sanctuary, but it is a vital component of our educational mission.
Interns will be responsible for cleaning animal enclosures, creating enrichment, preparing diets, washing dishes and laundry, gardening, and otherwise maintaining the facilities. In addition to husbandry, there will be regularly scheduled educational workshops in which interns will learn more about varying topics pertaining to both captive and wild chimpanzees. Interns will be expected to complete an independent project that they will present to the Chimps Inc. team.
Interns will work 5 1/2 days of the week; five of these days will be from 8:00 am to 5:00 pm and the half day will be from 11:00 am to 2:00 pm. Since the sanctuary operates seven days a week, the intern's day(s) off may vary. This program is labor intensive but will be very rewarding to those who are dedicated, motivated and willing to learn. Chimps Inc. maintains a no physical contact policy where interns are not allowed to touch the animals.
Documentation of current TB test, tetanus shot, Hepatitis B series, and health insurance coverage are required.

Enrollment Dates:
Intern applications are accepted throughout the year, however, accepted applicants have the option to enter on the first or the 15th of a month. Interns that start on the first of the month are required to stay for a minimum of four weeks. Interns that start on the 15th of the month are required to stay for a minimum of 6 weeks. This is based on the education schedule. We believe that interns benefit the most from our program if they extend their stay.

Lodging and educational materials will be provided to all interns for a cost of $85.00 per week. This includes a shared bedroom, kitchen, bathroom, living area, and all utilities. All fees must be paid in full before arriving at the sanctuary
