February 1st, 2010

Dear Friends,

As we bid “adieu” to 2009 we are graced with one last moment reminding us of what this and every year is about. It is a moment and place to reconnoiter, to take our bearings from where we have been and look to where we are headed, an opportunity to reflect and refocus our way into the days and the New Year ahead.

From expanding the structural enrichment in the Chimp Play House, re-socializing Herbie with other chimpanzees, speaking out at Senate on SB 391 – which bans private possession of certain wild animals as pets, to financially maintaining during challenging economic times, it has been an astounding year of accomplishments for Chimps Inc.

There is no way to capture all of Chimps Inc. achievements in the past year, but visit “Chimp Journal” on our website at www.chimps-inc.org or become a fan on Facebook and follow our e-story highlights. You’ll love the inspiring stories we have collected. All of the successes are the result of your sustained and generous support. Thank you.

Together we have done so much, and we are continuing to use this momentum to thrust us into 2010. Chimps Inc. has created two new funds: 1) to build an on-site veterinarian clinic and 2) to support Patti with drug therapy opportunities. In 2009, Patti began displaying some health problems that caused self-injurious behaviors. She was clinically diagnosed with Partial Complex Seizures in early 2009, however, a health issue such as this cannot be confirmed without conducting a complete MRI. As one can imagine, orchestrating an MRI for a chimpanzee is difficult. While Chimps Inc. has the resources we are seeking financial support to move forward with this procedure. In the meantime, Chimps Inc. is seeking out responsive forms of drug therapy to reduce Patti’s risk to injury.

Both funds are critical to advancing the core mission of Chimps Inc. which is to provide permanent, superior quality, lifetime care to exploited and misused chimpanzees and big cats. 2010 is the year for positive change and we know that, with your generous support, we can make those positive transformations. Upon your request, we will allocate your donation specifically to one of the above mentioned funds. To learn more please call us at 541-385-3372.

To our dedicated members and individual followers, I appreciate your loyalty and commitment to Chimps Inc. and I hope that we continue to earn your trust and dedication to achieving our goals and mission. To the Board of Directors, staff, volunteers and interns, I thank you for your continued excellent work and valuable contributions to the smooth operations of the organization. And to all of our readers and your families, my sincere wishes for a healthy and happy 2010.

Warmest Regards,

Paula Muellner
