While Jackson certainly can be a rambunctious boy, he has plenty of calm moments. One of these I witnessed was between him and Maggie. Jackson was sitting alone fiddling with a blanket when Maggie approached him. She sat right next to him with a happy grunt and began grooming.

While tiding up in the garden enclosure, Topo was overseeing my progress calmly with his head resting on his knees. While he was busy watching me, Thiele came and sat beside him and offered an affectionate groom. Topo closed his eyes and opened them again slowly, happy for the comforting touch. Then Maggie decided the more the merrier and climbed up to sit on Topo’s other side and started grooming him. Alfonz enjoyed some exciting enrichment today. A large plush toy duck had its head anointed with oregano essential oil, and its back with lavender oil. Alfonz’s reaction to the scented duck was similar to that of a domestic cat snuffling in catnip. He clapped his front paws around the plush ducks neck, sniffed curiously, and nuzzled it with his handsome face. He then felt a good back roll on the duck was in order and did so with a playful glint in his eyes. Before we left, he was giving the ducks head a good gnaw. He really had a good time with the plush duck, which means the enrichment was a success!
